There are many universities in Germany; some were established in the 13th century (Heidelberg University)!
Education is Free in Germany (unless you go to a private College/University). Most Universities accept international students, and some courses are taught in English too. Education is almost free even for International students (non-EU Students)
German Universities have low Tuition fees, like 500 euros/semester (fees may be higher in private Universities)
Most of the courses are taught in German, but there are an increasing number of English courses (at Master's level and above! Like Engineering, Sciences, MBA.).
There are about 70 Universities, and about 10% are in the top 200 (worldwide ranking).
A "Universitat" is a doctorate-granting institution.
A "Fachhochschule" means the University of Applied Science; these Universities specialize in arts, science, engineering, or business.
